Translation Volunteers Help Reopen English Website

The TFRD has established a translation community this year in order to reopen the English website. Four patients of the TFRD, William, Rachel, Ellen and Flora, who volunteered to help translate 19 articles into English to be posted on the organization official website.

The instruction of the English website helps TFRD communicate with the world. TFRD has set up an English website many years ago; however, due to the old website system, and be short of hands to manage the updating news, the website has been closed for a long time. This year, TFRD set up the translation community for the first time, hoping to recruit the patients as volunteers to translate some articles into English and post on the website, at the same time, the patients can improve their English ability and derive a sense of achievement from the process.

Speaking of the birth of the translation community, we have to give credit to one of the patients, William. He wanted to make good use of his time for TFRD. Therefore, TFRD came up with an idea to brought William’s competency into full play. TFRD started to search for the members in full swing. Luckily, three other members with good English ability were quickly recruited: Rachel, the Wilson's disease, Ellen, the Osteogenesis Imperfecta and Flora, the Treacher Collins syndrome. 

Rachel grew up in America. She loves writing and shows interest intranslating English articles. Ellen, who express her interest in English and translation as well, agreed to join without hesitate. Flora, who is now a student of National Taiwan University and has a plan for studying aboard as an exchange student in the future, also joined the community for practicing English.

Meanwhile, TFRD also invited Ms. Nicky and Ms. Sandy to join the project as instructors. The student members will use their free time to translate several articles regularly, and send their works to teachers for review. With the members’ hard working and the teachers’ assistance, from June to December, there are 19 translated articles are ready to be post and the long-closed website has finally reopened!
