Painting Class
In the world of art, everyone is equal.
“As we cannot control the length of life, we can choose to make it broader.” Guided by this belief, the Northern Rare Disease Art Painting Class was established in 2004. With the support of a strong team of instructors from the arts and cultural fields, the program created a platform where individuals with rare diseases could freely express themselves through art.Although paintings and artworks do not speak, they gently soothe wounded hearts and have deeply moved countless viewers. From the very beginning, instructors tailored their teaching to each participant, uncovering the limitless potential within every individual. As the number of participants grew, the foundation expanded the program by offering shorter-term painting classes in central and southern Taiwan. In 2023, the Rare Disease Home Talent Training Program was launched. Today, an annual nationwide exhibition showcases the achievements of these painting classes, alongside the publication of calendars, planners, and art albums, allowing the public to share in a year’s worth of creative.
As time has passed, many of the children who once joined the painting classes formed lasting bonds with art. When they grew older and faced choices about education and career paths, many naturally chose to pursue artistic fields. Today, some have become well-known illustrators, picture book authors, and even animators. While achieving professional success, they continue to give back by returning as instructors or contributing illustrations for rare disease picture books—serving as inspiring role models for younger students.
The Art Painting Class is no longer merely a place of healing; it has become a catalyst shaping participants’ future paths. Dedicated to discovering and nurturing talent, the program hopes to see more rare disease artists grow, thrive, and shine in the years to come.
