Badminton with Olympic Champion

Coinciding with Father's Day, the Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders (TFRD) teamed up with the Mercuries Life Insurance (MLI) to organize a series of badminton respite events. The tournaments were successfully held in northern Taiwan on August 9, central Taiwan on August 16, and southern Taiwan on September 6, drawing nearly 200 patients and family members.

The events featured Olympic badminton gold medalist Wang Chi-Lin, who serves as a public welfare ambassador for TFRD. Wang shared that after his gold medal victory, he experienced a low period and underwent lengthy rehabilitation, which gave him deeper insight into the long-term dedication of family caregivers. He encouraged all participants to embrace care and support with courage. During the activities, Wang not only patiently instructed young participants but also played friendly matches with family members, hoping to bring catharsis and strength through sports.

The August 9th event also welcomed Paralympic badminton athlete Tsai Yi-Lin, who lives with achondroplasia. She shared her personal journey, encouraging families with these words: “As long as you fly a little higher today than you did yesterday, that is still progress.”

We extend our sincere gratitude to MLI for their steadfast companionship and support, bringing warmth and strength to families facing rare diseases.
