TFRD Translation Club Produces Radio Drama

After months of meetings and discussions, members of the TFRD Translation Club, guided by Soochow University English professor Kent Wang and teaching assistants Joy, Cathy, and Emma, decided to mark their final gathering of the year with the recording of a radio drama. The session took place on June 21, the summer solstice, at Soochow University.

We sincerely thank Professor Wang for carefully organizing this special experience. Thanks to his efforts, our club members had the chance to record a radio drama in a professional studio. Everyone was excited and focused as they put on their headphones, held the revised English script, and fully engaged in the recording. Each scene was recorded three times to get it just right. After every session, members listened to the recordings, pointing out the strong parts and areas that could be improved. With each round of practice, their performances got better and better. When the final line was spoken, the whole studio burst into joyful cheers.

A long-time member who has been active in the club for seven years shared her excitement about this year’s recording project, saying it was especially meaningful because of her lifelong love for English recitation. A first-time participant also expressed heartfelt thanks for finding such a warm and supportive group, saying she gained much more from the experience than she ever expected. Another member sincerely thanked Professor Wang for his continued guidance over the years, noting the strong sense of encouragement and support he has built within the club. An assistant instructor also shared her thoughts, saying she was deeply touched by the kindness and teamwork she witnessed—qualities she felt were truly meaningful and priceless.

From the six in-person gatherings this year, to the many online discussions, the English guided tour at the Rare Disease Welfare Center (RDWC) for international guests, and the recording of an English picture book radio play—each activity has shown the dedication and hard work of everyone involved. We are truly grateful for all your efforts. The 2025 Rare Translation Club’s annual events have now come to a successful close. While it’s hard to say goodbye, we’re already looking forward to reuniting next year to continue this wonderful journey together!
