Life Education Instructor Training Program

To support existing life education instructors in enhancing their professional knowledge and skills, and to cultivate potential patients and family members to become instructors, TFRD Taichung Branch co-organized the “Life Education Promotion Instructor Training Course” with Re-U Social Enterprise on March 22nd and March 29th, bringing together 10 patients and 4 family members.

During the course, Instructor Ms. Chiu guided participants in clarifying the purpose and substance of their narratives, while encouraging them to consider the needs of their target audience. By drawing on their own significant life experiences to form meaningful connections, participants were able to break free from conventional thinking patterns and relate their stories to those of others. This approach, Ms. Chiu emphasized, is key to creating resonance, evoking emotional responses, and leaving a lasting impression on listeners.

Ms. Chiu invited a visually-impaired lecturer with five years of advocacy experience to share some insights. For visually impaired people, who cannot use presentations as an aid, they usually rely on transcripts and lots of practice beforehand to get through their talks. The lecturer's presentation did not focus on the challenges and limitations posed by rare diseases, but rather on identifying personal strengths and discovering core values that can positively impact others.

Finally, Ms. Chiu invited each participant to give an 8-minute presentation and provided individual feedback, encouraging everyone to seize future opportunities to put what they had learned into practice and raise public awareness of rare diseases.
