Psychological Counseling Seminar for Rare Diseases

After a 12-year hiatus, TFRD successfully hosted the Psychological Counseling Seminar for Rare Diseases on June 29 at the Chang Yung-Fa Foundation International Conference Center. Organized in collaboration with the National Taiwan University Clinical Psychology Center, the event brought together 93 professionals from diverse fields, including clinical psychologists, counseling psychologists, social workers, and members of rare disease care teams.

The morning sessions addressed key topics such as psychological challenges before and after genetic testing, difficulties faced by children and adolescents with rare diseases, and the impact of these conditions on family dynamics. In the afternoon, experienced counseling psychologists—longtime collaborators with TFRD’s northern, central, and southern regional offices—shared their practical insights. Their discussions provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the psychological challenges encountered on the front lines of rare disease care, as well as effective intervention strategies.

By the end of this intensive day of learning and exchange, participants gained a more comprehensive perspective on rare diseases and reaffirmed the critical role of psychological counseling in patient support. More than just a sharing of knowledge, the seminar served as a spiritual baptism, allowing each participant to continue on the path of helping others with new perspectives and motivation.
