English Website Translating Club - We are All Fully Loaded
“ I found that I have over-estimated my English ability after joining this club.”
“This club provides me with a lot of time to practice English. I found what I had learned before useful.”
“Without this club, I think I might be lazy all day long (LOL).(Hahaha)”
After chorus, drawing classes and writing classes, Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders (TFRD) has been working on holding different kinds of classes. This not only gives patients different options, but we also hope everyone can have a chance to develop their own talents.
English website translating club was establish in 2018, and was formed by patients who are interested in English. They volunteered in translating the articles of English websites. On the one hand, members improve their English ability by the leading of professional English teachers. On the other hand, they contribute their talent and bring the service and information about rare diseases in Taiwan to the world. Actually, what you are reading now is just translated by one of the members of the club. This year, seven enthusiastic patients join the club and we invite Teacher Kent from Department of English Language and Literature, Soochow University, who is also professional in interpretation and four teaching assistants. All the member worked very hard together and translated 37 articles, feeling strong senses of achievement.
The last get-together was held on December 8, and everyone shared their own feeling about translating during the past one year. Teacher Kent said with emotion, “When I was invited to the club, I thought that it is very good to let patients join the society and attend activities. These both make contribution to the society.” At the end of the reunion, Kent reminded everyone that the most important thing about translation is to enjoy the process. Ruth Chen, the CEO of TFRD said that learning English is like getting on a diet, which are both life-long job. This year’s translation activity ended in happy atmosphere, and we are all looking forward to seeing each other again next year.
