A Song Collection Written by Patients is Online

【Member Creations】A Special Collection of Songs Written by Rare Disease Patients Officially Available Online at KKBOX and iTunes Store!

Patients who are afflicted with rare diseases have to struggle with their illnesses throughout their entire lives.  It is impossible for the average people to imagine the hardships these sufferers must go through in life.  However, they do not easily give up. Instead, they use songs to record the chapters in life.  In 2016, TFRD and Tainan National University of The Arts collaborated to make an album. Under the guidance of Professor Liu, students composed the melodies to the lyrics provided by the patients and their families.  With the assistance of TFRD’s chorus teachers - Ms. Liang, Ms. Hsu and Ms. Fu - the group completed their first album:  Love Music: A Special Collection of The Best Songs Created by Rare Disease Patients.  Through the music production, the patients recorded their (or their parents’) feelings of confronting their life-long suffering, hoping to strike a sympathetic chord with the public.

“At a crossroad, should I turn left or turn right? Mommy says, ’Don’t worry. Just walk forward, bravely.’ I love music!  Music loves me! No matter when, it always accompanies me.” The above lyrics belong to just one song among this album’s eight very touching songs and is also an exact reflection of Jia-Wen family’s state of mind during singing class. On the other hand, Transparent City Wall is a vivid portrayal of Mr. Guang Hui Li, as he gazed upon his muscular dystrophic daughter through the glass window of the ICU, with mixed feelings of anxiety, helplessness and expectation.

In 2018, TFRD finally gained the support of KKBOX and iTunes Store*, two popular music platforms, to sell the album.  All sales profits will be at the disposal of future Rare Disease Chorus Class.  All are welcome to download or share.
