By making advance medical decisions, people could decide beforehand what kind of medical treatment they want or don't want at the terminal of their lives, allowing them to have the right to a dignified and palliative demise. TFRD collaborated with Taipei City Hospital, the National Palace Museum, and the Patient Autonomy Research Center to invite seven patients and family members from Taipei, Taichung, and Yilan to attend the "Pre-Determination of Medical Care Group Consultation" at the National Palace Museum on July 8.
Dr. Liu Jian-Liang, Chief of Neurology at Heping Fuyou Branch of Taipei City Hospital, explained in an easy-to-understand way the Patient-Centered Approach, the meaning of Advance Decision, and the right to choose. A nurse practitioner and a social worker assisted the patients willing to understand more about Advance Decision and to sign the Advance Decision. While awaiting the result of uploading the Advance Decision, guides from the National Palace Museum led everyone to walk around the National Palace Museum looking for national treasures and bathing in the rich humanistic atmosphere.
Thank you to the professional consulting team of Taipei City United Hospital for providing exhaustive consulting services; to the National Palace Museum for providing the venue and educational tours; and to the Patient Autonomy Research Center for subsidizing the advance healthcare consulting for patients with rare diseases and their family members.
