Rare Boccia Team Newly Formed
The 2023 President's Cup of the National Disabled Games-Boccia took place on April 9th at the Gymnasium of National Taiwan Normal University Linkou Campus. The atmosphere in the gym was filled with anticipation and excitement as players across the country gathered to compete.
As part of this year's event, TFRD introduced a new initiative called the "Boccia Experience Course." The course aimed to create a platform for wheelchair-bound individuals with a passion for sports to participate and cultivate their interest in athletics. To achieve this goal, 13 patients with rare diseases were brought together to form the "Rare Boccia Team."
Players align their eyes, hands, and the target ball, and then exert great effort to throw the ball. Each throw determines win or loss. Boccia is a sport that combines strategy and skills, and what makes it particularly enjoyable is the unpredictability of the outcome until the very end of each game. With the constant possibility of being surpassed by their opponents, every player must maintain focus and never give up, even on a single throw.
The games continued in the afternoon, and the Rare Boccia Team won the first runner-up in the team competition with two wins and one loss! TFRD will continue to encourage new players to join the Rare Boccia Team. We plan to recruit more RD patients and their siblings who have a passion for Boccia, allowing them to enjoy the sport and confidently pursue their dreams.
