Marathonmad Neil O'Maonaigh-Lennon Runs Around the Island For Rare Disorders

Early in the morning, Neil O’Maonaigh-Lennon, an English teacher from United Kingdom, started his 30 days’ Marathon around Taiwan Island for Rare Disorders and Cancer Research. For the coming month, Neil will run to raise fund for the Rare Disorders in Taiwan and the Cancer Research in UK, in excepting to call more of the public’s concerns about the Rare Disorders.

Neil O’Maonaigh-Lennon is going to end up his days as an English teacher in Taiwan with a meaningful activity. He has being running marathons for many years and hoping to do something for the people in need on this island before he leaves, he decides to run a fundraising marathon to fulfill his dream. To echo Neil’s kindness and compassion, his colleagues at Shane English School, the school he has been work for, and the mayor of Keelung County voluntarily helped him to plan the route and collect the information of lodge and transportation. They even hold a fundraising activity to grab more public's attention to encourage the rare disorder patients.

While the ceremony began, Mayor Chang Tong-rong personally ran a certain section with Neil. Neil said he is very happy to help people by his running, he do hope a lot more people could join this meaningful activity. He got the inspiration from Terry Fox’s “Marathon of Hope”, a cross-Canada run to raise money for cancer research. He expect himself could achieve this challenge of running for consecutive 30 days. “Each of us is susceptible to the ‘Genetic lottery’ which governs our very being and the two charities I have chosen reflect the need to continue and advance current research in the field of Rare Disorders and the fight against Cancer.” said Neil. A rare disorder patient Zheng Ling attended the ceremony as a representative of all the rare disorder patients to express thanks to Neil O’Maonaigh-Lennon, wishing him a wonderful journey, meanwhile, to bestow their utmost respects to the concerns from all social circles.

Marathonmad Neil’s journey will start at the most Northern point of Taiwan and it will take in the most Eastern, Southern and Western points coupled with 6 City Marathons along the route.
