"The Sound of Love" Concert in Celebration of the 10th Anniversary of TFRD

Last year, in order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the foundation, TFRD choir members from Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung held two concerts on September 4th and 5th at Taipei Grace Baptist Church and at Taiwan CPC Corporation conference room. Many of TFRD’s friends came and enjoyed the wonderful performance with our patients.

The concert on September 4th was mainly for all the members and friends of TFRD. Besides the choirs’ regular members, the “TFRD Children’s Choir”, “Never-Run-Away Fathers’ Club” and “TFRD Mothers’ Choir” also performed at the concert. As most members of the TFRD chorus are rare disease patients, many of them can neither walk properly nor speak clearly. Therefore, it was under the extremely patient instruction of the choir teacher, Ms. Jenny Fu, and the assistance of many volunteers that the chorus members created a true miracle. Some members of The TFRD Children’s Choir even soloed that day. The progress of their diseases may hamper their walking, balance, oral expression or emotions, but they kept practicing, word by word till they could finally sing those songs in front of all the audience. In addition, the “Never-Run-Away Fathers’ Club”, consisting of rare disease children’s fathers, also performed two well-known pop songs, which reflected their support for each other and their enthusiasm toward their lovely families.

Also, since about 70% of TFRD’s operational fund comes from the general public’s small-amount donation, we hoped to express our appreciation by inviting our benefactors and friends to our concert on the second day. For the same reason, popular performers were also invited to participate in the event, including the TFRD Chamber Music Group and famous Taiwanese singers. They altogether added great variety to the performance. Also invited was the TFRD Chamber Music Group in collaboration with the famous piano player Eric Chen to perform a well-known Taiwanese folk song.

The chairman of the board of TFRD, Dr. Yuan-Tsong Chen, stated in the concert: “During the past ten years, we (TFRD) have been very lucky to receive all the warm support and encouragement from Taiwanese society, without which we could not have gone so far. Besides policy advocacy, we continuously develop a variety of service programs to meet the needs of rare disease patients. At the same time, we welcome more people to join us and stand for the rare-disease patients.” The 10-year milestone for TFRD showcased what we had achieved, and more importantly, it heralded the beginning of a new era. Because of you, rare-disordered friends can have their own stage, and rediscover the value and meaning of life!
