Taiko Camp in Summer
TFRD held a Taiko Camp in summer of 2011, every Tuesday afternoon from July 19th to August 23th. There were 15 patients and one sibling attended this camp. Teacher Little Bear from CPM Taiko brought the children into the world of Taiko.
Playing Taiko can help the children train their physical movements. With the rhythm and tempo, it could also inspire their creativity and potential. Teacher introduced the knowledge about Taiko and used some easy mnemonic phrases such as “one elephant” and “two tigers” to guide the children memorize the tempo easily. Even if they couldn’t read the music sheets.
Later, the children were divided into three groups like voice types in a choir. They practiced different tempo separately and then combined together to become a vivid composition. They learned to play two songs within 10 hours.
A small presentation took place in the Bread of life Christian Church in Shilin at the last class. 4 professional drums and dancing groups were invited to perform with the children, which was a brand-new experience to them. TFRD will arrange more interesting summer camps next year, and children are all welcomed to sign up!
