Painting Club Experience- One-day Campus Sketching

On the 20th of October, dean of the NTPU College of Social Sciences, Min-Chieh Tseng, who is also the co-founder of Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders, conduced to an one-day campus sketching for the members of the painting club and their family at National Taipei University. There were 40 members and 77 participants included their family members in total attended this event.

Right after arrival, members took a group photo in front of the magnificent and modern library. In the morning, members started sketching at the garden on the second floor. The beauty of campus landscape, lake view, owl installation art are all presented in member’s masterpiece, and giving a new meaning on the paper.

At noon, members visited the campus exhibition from the driftwood painter, Mr. Shuh-Sen Yang. With the private guide tour of Mr. Yang, we found out that he is a patient of Schizophrenia, and he told us he had the most miserable 5 years in the organization. However, with the power of painting, Mr. Yang understood the driftwood spirit, and created a style of his own, his doctor even joked, “You can paint, you have your own exhibition, you are not a handicapped anymore!”

Mr. Yang encouraged everyone “The way of drifting is not smooth, but finally the driftwood will find its direction, and green sprout will grow from the broken wood, and all the process makes it more colorful and stronger!” With creativities and patience, those driftwood and scraps can be turned into a special art, just as our members, everyone is with a sort of limitations, but when they keep focusing on life, everyone can be special and full of energy.

We are grateful for the support from the NTPU College of Social Sciences and the library, and our sponsor, Taipei Jin Jhan Lions Club. With their assistance, this meaningful event can run smoothly in all aspects.
