Accessible Mini-Trip in Kaohsiung
TFRD's Kaohsiung City Branch Office organized its first barrier-free mini-tour. Together with the Rotary Club of Kaohsiung Da Ai, we planned a one-day trip for the wheelchair-bound patients in the southern region. A total of 35 people, including 12 wheelchair-bound patients with mobility impairment and family members, were invited to visit the Meinong Farm in Kaohsiung. TFRD also contacted the Kaohsiung LTC Transp Association to arrange 11 barrier-free cabs so that everyone could go on the trip without any worries!
In the morning, everyone experienced washing Aiyu seeds at the farm, enjoyed a sumptuous Hakka cuisine at noon, and then started the afternoon with an exciting paintball game. Several wheelchair-bound patients said cheerfully that this was the first time in their lives to experience paintball game. They couldn’t believe they could do this! After having a good time, the Aiyu seeds washed by ourselves in the morning was solidified into jelly. Everyone enjoyed the jelly pleasantly, which was really fabulous. And by kicking off the final painting wind-bell DIY, the day was brought to a perfect end.
It was a short day, but it was a precious memory for the patients with limited mobility living in the remote areas. For those who have difficulty moving, it takes lots of efforts to complete a barrier-free trip. If it were not for this opportunity, many patients would not have been able to go out for a long time. Thank you again to the Rotary Club of Kaohsiung Da Ai and Kaohsiung Farm for providing the barrier-free space. We are also grateful to the Kaohsiung LTC Transp Association for offering shuttle service and donating NT$10,000 on the spot, which made us deeply touched!
