TFRD Taichung Branch Office Opened!

In order to fulfill more patients' expectation and needs, as 2007 starts, we have  also established another new branch office in Taichung City, a city in central  Taiwan. This is our second branch office since TFRD's establishment in 1999.

For the past 8 years, we have been not only working on legislation and social  issues, but also providing direct service to our patients. In order to further service  our patients in central Taiwan, we go beyond the geographic barriers into central  Taiwan to gather resources and connect our patients. Our vice president,
Prof. Min-Chieh Tseng said, "Through the establishment of Taichung branch office, we will  gather the medical, social welfare and educational resources in central Taiwan  and closely meet the needs of patients here."

There are many patients with William's Syndrome and Prader-Willi Syndrom  in central Taiwan. According to the Dr. Fuu-Jen Tsai, Dean of College of Chinese  Medicine, China Medical University, children with those diseases may have developmental delays as well as sensory integration disorder. Sometimes  one or more senses are either over- or under-reactive to stimulation. In order to help children with sensory integration problems, TFRD Taichung branch office cooperates with occupational therapist to start sensory integration service.  We hope to assist the child in inhibiting and/or modulating sensory information,  and to assist the child in processing a more organized response to sensory stimuli.

A mother of a child with William's Syndrome is excited about the sensory integration  service. She said that she can't wait to bring her son to Taichung branch office  where her son can stay at the sensory integration classroom while she has meetings  with other parents in the meeting room next to the classroom. They don't have to  worry about other people's opinion when they meet at our branch office.

Besides sensory integration classroom, TFRD Taichung branch office will start  psychological counseling services, performing workshops, computer classes  and other activities for patient groups in the near future. We hope to make  Taichung branch office another home for our patients where they can seek  support and accompany.
