2019 Rare Disease Day Show You Care!
The Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders (TFRD) is encouraging the general public to use their creativity through a series of events to help raise the profile of the RareDisease Day.
The events, which include making creative photos or social media posts, are being held to mark the Rare Disease Day, which falls on the last day of February.
The Rare Disease Day was first launched by EURORDIS and Council of National Alliances on February29, 2008, a purposeful choice of the date that occurs only once every four years.
In the following year, the TFRD, the NORD and other rare disease groups in 19 countries joined the campaign. Spain even announced 2013 as the "National Rare Disease Year.”
With increasing media reports and social attention, as many as 90 countries and cities participated in the campaign in 2017 and 2018.
The Rare Disease Day is aimed at raising more public awareness of rare diseases and involving medical researchers and governments in the global effort. Most of the rare disease are incurable. Some of them are undiagnosed.
Rare Disease Day has different themes and slogans every year, such as “Rare but Strong Together!(2012)” and “Join Together for Better Care! (2014)”. These themes focus on bridging health and social care.
The events organized by the TFRD this year are as follows:
