The 8th Adaptive Baseball Tournament for Children
On Saturday, October 11, the Challenger Cup baseball tournament for children and youth with disabilities took center stage at Taipei's Tianmu Baseball Stadium. This year's event, themed “BUDDY Together, Unlimited Love,” emphasized the spirit of sportsmanship as well as the love and support demonstrated in overcoming obstacles. Featuring athletes aged 4 to 18 with disabilities, the tournament drew enthusiastic participation from all sectors. Notably, two-time Olympic badminton gold medalist and current Minister of Sports Li Yang graced the event with his presence, offering tremendous encouragement to the athletes. Farglory Foundation CEO Yang Shun-chin expressed hopes to host an official tournament at the Taipei Dome by the event's tenth anniversary, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.
The event kicked off with an energetic performance by the Mom Cheer Squad, blending the theme song “Swing It Out” with a spectacular display by the WeiChuan Dragons' Little Dragon Girls, elevating the atmosphere to a climax. WeiChuan Dragons star players Liu Jun-wei, Chen Szu-chung, Chang Yu-ming, and Tsao Yu-chi participated throughout, accompanying the children in completing base-running challenges and enthusiastically high-fiving them, creating a heartwarming scene.
The “Rare Little Warriors” baseball team, now in its eighth year, featured 35 players representing 21 different rare diseases, with three rare disease peers volunteering as Buddies. Despite weather challenges during training, the team demonstrated unwavering perseverance and strong teamwork, earning the “Unlimited Potential Award.” After the game, the children gathered in a circle to encourage one another, showcasing the deep bonds forged over eight years of pursuing their baseball dreams together.
Special thanks to the Taipei Dongmen Rotary Club, KEDP Charitable Trust, BlueBird Travel, and other corporate sponsors for their generous support, which added warmth and meaning to the event.
