Notes on Injection of COVID-19 Vaccine for RD
As announced by the Centers for Disease Control, Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) in February, patients with rare diseases (RD) are included in Group 9 of the government-funded COVID-19 vaccine program. However, due to the severity of the epidemic, the difficulty in getting the vaccine, and the need to seek medical care, many patients are very concerned about when the vaccine will be available. We are well aware of the needs and constraints of our patients. In addition to paying close attention to the vaccine information released by the government, we have also sent a letter to ask MOHW to allow RD patients to be jabbed earlier. Please be patient and wait. We also remind you to pay closer attention to your health condition and take protective measures, such as wearing masks, washing hands regularly, and going out less.
However, there are still risks involved in vaccination, and AZ Vaccine recommends that those who are "not allowed" to get vaccinated include:
(1) Those who are allergic to the ingredients within the vaccine
(2) Those with an acute severe allergic reaction after the first dose of AZ vaccine
(3) Adolescents aged 18 years or younger
(4) Those who have an acute illness with fever or infection should withhold from receiving AZ vaccine.
Before receiving the vaccine for a patient with RD, it is important to consult with your attending physician to assess the possible risks, benefits, and unique disease conditions before making a decision. It is important to let your doctor know if you are using immunosuppressive agents or special medications to help with the evaluation. In addition, adequate rest is required before and after vaccination. Be aware of side effects and contact the hospital where you received the vaccine or your attending physician if you experience any discomfort.
Lastly, for those who have rare diseases not recognized by the government but are covered in TFRD’s service, please present the patient identification card provided by TFRD (the patient identification card will be sent out after the confirmation of the injection schedule, please don't worry).
Information on COVID-19 vaccination is available at the CDC's Severe Special Infectious Pneumonia website (http://www.cdc.gov.tw). If the public has questions about COVID-19 vaccination, they can also call the CDC's toll-free hotline at 1922.
