Famous Baseball Players Donate at Charity Auction
Dozens of famous baseball players and a popular artist took part in a charity project that was aimed at financing the Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders (TFRD) for medical care through auctioning off commemorative jerseys, sneakers and bats.
The auction project was a cooperation between the current New Taipei City baseball team coach Chun-Yang Tsao and PCG BROS Company limited “Dream+.” The bidding items included a jersey and sneakers donated by Chien-Ming Wang, an expatriate baseball pitcher in the U.S.. Wang’s Kansas City Royals (KC) 67th signature golden jersey was specially made by KC to celebrate the 2015 MLB World Championship.
In addition, artist A-LIN and 28 domestic and foreign baseball stars including Chang Tai-shan, Cheng-Min Peng, Yi-Chuan Lin, Fu-Te Ni, Hong-Chih Kuo, Cheng Kai-Wen, Pan-Wei Lun, Guang-Hui Wang and so on donated a total of 43 commemorative combat jerseys, sneakers, bats and album’s promotional costumes. Among them, signature bat of Shikoku Island League Plus Tokushima Indigo Socks was donated by Chang Tai-shan. This bat is very meaningful to him.
On January 20th, coach Tsao Chun-yang shed manly tears when he was interviewed at a press conference for the auction. He said emotionally, “Because I am a father of two children, I can better understand the hardships of rare disease families.”
At the end of the auction, Chien-Ming Wang’s jersey and spikes were sold for NT$1 million. Afterward, coach Tsao encouraged Wang by saying that ”Chien-Ming Wang, continue to pitch! Don't retire so you can help more people. You are ‘the glory of Taiwan’. We will always be there for you!”
The TFRD expressed appreciation to PCG BROS Company limited “Dream+,” coach Tsao and the stars. During the first round of auction, the bidders from three enterprises demonstrated strong enthusiasm as the jersey and sneakers of Chien-Ming Wang was auctioned off for NT$1 million, the bat of Chang Tai-shan for NT$50,000, Tsao’s purple jersey for NT$50,000. All auction proceeds were donated to the TFRD for medical care for rare diseases.
