Dining Together: Gardening for Stress Relief
Amid the fast-paced life of the city, people often struggle to find time to relax. On March 15, the Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders (TFRD) offered a peaceful escape by inviting families affected by rare diseases to NTU Experimental Farm Ankang Branch. The event, led by Ms. Chang Chiao-Hui, aimed to provide a healing and calming experience in nature. A total of 20 participants took part in the activity.
In addition to sharing practical gardening knowledge and helping participants understand the origins of the ingredients they consume daily, the event also aims to help participants reconnect with nature and find peace and relaxation through plants. During the preparation for the “Cooking & Dining Together” activity, participants personally selected and washed various familiar plants and fruits, then worked together to create refreshing salads. The tasty dishes they prepared themselves made the meal more meaningful and appreciated.
After enjoying their meal, participants put on straw hats and took a leisurely walk around the farm. They observed the wildflowers and plants up close, paying attention to the natural beauty around them. Soon after, they began gathering materials for a flower arranging activity. With plenty of creativity on display, each person designed a unique potted arrangement that reflected their personal style. As they focused on arranging the flowers, many found a sense of calm and clarity, leaving them feeling relaxed and refreshed.
This event not only encouraged participants to reconnect with their inner selves and nature, but also allowed families to experience deep tranquility and relaxation together. We look forward to organizing more events in the future to share the healing and relaxation power of horticultural therapy with more families.
