Heading for Miaoli for A Barrier-Free Trip
October 31 marked the second barrier-free trip of the year. Following the spirit of transporting patients to and from their homes, a total of 13 barrier-free taxicabs were arranged to take 46 people, including 14 wheelchair-bound patients and their families, on a one-day trip to Miaoli. Experiencing culture was the theme of this trip. The trip was focused on cultural experiences, including the Hakka culture, the chocolate production process, and a visit to the century-old Miaoli Tunnel (known as Gongweixu Tunnel) to witness the historical and cultural traces.
Special thanks to the drivers from Hong Shuai Taxi Service, Taiwan Taxi and Taoyuan Taxi for taking care of the patients throughout the day. We were touched by the joyful interaction between the drivers and the patients. To complete a barrier-free trip, there are many obstacles to overcome, not only the special arrangement of transportation, but also the careful consideration of patients' needs and difficulties. Seeing the joyful smiles in the faces of the patients and their families was the most rewarding and worthwhile part of the trip. We expect to see you again next year.
