NTUST EMBA Alumni Supports Rare Disorders

Different Businessman: NTUST EMBA Alumni Supports Rare Disorders

"Enterprises' ultimate social responsibility is to make the society better.” Bearing this motto in mind, EMBA Alumni Association of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) held a "Hope & Care Concert" on Jan. 19, inviting rare disease patients, elementary school students and other social welfare organizations and donating NT400,000 to Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders.

As the chief director of NTUST EMBA Alumni Association, Mr. Kuo, Yi-Song indicates, "As our life improves materially, our spiritual life does not improve as expected. Rare Diseases are medical mysteries. However, these patients show us the strength of life fighters, who are reluctant to succumb to the weariness and pain brought by their diseases. We are all deeply touched by them and therefore decide to contribute our effort to rare disease patients. NTUST has fostered many outstanding entrepreneurs and we believe that it is far more important to be a person who can contribute to the society than simply being a businessman who sees only dollar sign. This year, we would like to do something different by giving, and supporting people in need. We hope this can be a role model for the society and encourage more people to participate in charity activities."

At the press conference before the concert, Heavenly Melody Chorus consisted of three rare disease patients, was invited to perform several songs. A-Jun with Thalassemia also brought us beautiful songs with his violin. The performers showed everyone that they can sing as well as normal people and their life can be as colorful as normal people's. Just as Yu-xing, our image representative, said at the press conference, she's thankful because her disease proceeds slower than other muscular dystrophy diseases and this gives her more time to do things to help people. Rare disease may hamper her movements but it won’t stop her from living out her life.

The concert was performed by Taipei Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ms. Jia-Yun, Chang and the repertoire included classical music, famous movie theme songs, and several Taiwanese folk songs. Going to the concert at the National Music Hall was also a unique experience for our patients. Many of them felt excited about going to the National Music Hall. Thanks to the support from EMBA Alumni Association, patients enjoyed a wonderful night full of music and warmth.
