2018 Home Rehabilitation Professionals Discussion
To exchange the experiences of home rehabilitation, the foundationis holding regular case study to improve the knowledge and future services ofservice professionals. The 2018 seminar for home rehabilitation professionalstook place on April 29 at the Taipei Head Office. The attending physicaltherapists raised many issues at their works and shared experiences aboutinteractions with patient families during the seminar. In 2017, the programprovided 60 home services to 17 patents of all age grounds in 12 diseasecategories. Most of the patients are adults who need long-term cares. It isnoteworthy that most applications are submitted by family caregivers based ontheir requirements. How to discover the requirements of patients and inspirethem to apply for home cares will be the key of success for homerehabilitation.
In a case of Pompe Disease, the language therapist demonstrates thespirit of companionship, guidance and inspiration to inner motives. The patienthas difficulty in speaking clearly and troubles in smiling because of the lowstrength in muscle control and facial movements as a result of the disease. Thesituation creates a major barrier for the patient’s personal relationship.Using the electrotherapy machine, the therapist is able to assist the patientby designing interesting activities that make training fun. Under theassistance of the therapist, the patient participates in community and churchactivities and gets more opportunities to interact with other people. Such anapproach successfully integrates rehabilitation into daily activities.
Case studies not only improve professional expertise, but alsodemonstrate the passion of therapists. Their empathy allows them to understandthe pressures and difficulties faced by patients and offer companionship duringthe long journey of rehabilitation.
