Firefly Story Island Ⅰ (2): Nana Dreamland
In 2015, TFRD and Philharmonic Radio Taipei (PRT) produced “Firefly Story Island”, a 12-episode series of musical audio dramas about rare diseases. Through the storyteller Pei-Yu Chiu’s vivid and magical voice, children are introduced to different types of rare diseases in interesting stories. It not only strikes a chord with the public, but also raises awareness of rare diseases from campus to families, and even provides another way of learning which is no longer limited by time and space.
In addition to listening, visual learning through pictures and symbols are also critical to children of school age and pre-school for understanding the world. In order to promote these elaborate stories about rare diseases, TFRD invited Akira, an illustrator and occupational therapist, cooperated with Zheng-Ling, an illustrator suffered from Muscular Dystrophy, to create 12 episodes of musical broadcast into a series of picture books - "Firefly Story Island". The musical broadcast combined incidental music and interlude songs produced by WIND MUSIC Corp. and Band Control T. Through vivid scene in the picture books, Twinkle the firefly guided the children walked into a story and learned about rare diseases together.
There are 12 volumes of "Firefly Story Island" picture books in this series. Each volume had a different rare disease as the topic. Include Introduction, Phenylketouria(PKU), Ectodermal Dysplasias, Tuberous Sclerosis, Thalassemia Major, Huntington Disease, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Williams Syndrome, Hereditary Epidermolysis Bullosa(EB), Osteogenesis Imperfecta(OI), Spinal Muscular Atrophy(SMA) and Achondroplasia.
